Position Title: Alumni Relations Manager

Seyfarth Shaw seeks an Alumni Relations Manager to develop and manage an active attorney alumni network. The manager will be able to create a community of alumni that align with our firm’s strategy. This is a national position that will be based in either Chicago, Los Angeles or New York.


The ideal candidate will have experience in developing and/or working with an alumni network with a professional services firm. It is essential for the candidate to possess strong communication skills, including communications to alumni, social, media, website, career placement, and event planning. This is a collaborative position working closely with the colleagues in marketing/business development, practice development, communications, talent development and legal recruiting.


As part of our team, the Alumni Relations Manager will play an integral role in creating an environment of collaboration, teamwork, excellence and high performance for all employees and partners, and past employees and partners throughout the firm.

Required Skills:

•           Design and build an attorney alumni program; work closely with the Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer and Regional Marketing & Business Development Director and various partners to develop the strategy and plan to support the program


•           Develop materials explaining the value, benefits and goals of the alumni relations program


•           Identify alumni-focused activities to support the growth goals of the practice departments and offices and execute on same


•           Plan and execute events, regional and/or office specific in collaboration with regional marketing & business development team members and office managing partners


•           In collaboration with our marketing content team, develop and maintain an alumni microsite, including such items as a database of alumni, events, career moves, and job postings


•           Work with legal recruiting team to identify opportunities for attorney alumni and associates


•           In collaboration with our Communications team, develop a communications plan, including consideration of an alumni-focused newsletter, social media outreach, etc.


•           In collaboration with our talent development team, coordination on information to be collected and/or shared in exit interviews


•           Build a working knowledge of our firm’s practice areas, including strategy, clients, industries, especially those with alumni connections

Required Education:

The ideal candidate will have:


•           Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or related fields;


•           Minimum five years of experience in marketing, or similar roles, preferably in a professional services environment; law firm experience preferred;


•           Strong interpersonal, influencing and relationship building skills; business acumen; leadership skills and initiative; organization, follow-through and execution capabilities;


•           The ability to build relationships, collaborate and work closely with peers, alumni, external contacts and other colleagues in the Firm to drive local and national initiatives;


•           Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail;


•           Excellent computer skills required including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel; knowledge of viDesktop a plus;


•           Some travel may be expected (up to 5%).
