Position Title: Chief Operations Officer

Walsworth, one of Orange County, California's largest law firms with offices throughout California and Washington State, seeks an experienced Chief Operating Officer to be based in the Firm's Orange County office. The COO will be a critical member of the Firm's leadership team. He or she will direct all administrative departments, with a goal of providing full support for the Firm's strategic initiatives and ensuring that operational results are achieved.

The COO will report to the Firm’s Managing Partner, oversee all administrative operations of the Firm and work closely with the Firm's steering committee on the development and implementation of the Firm's strategic plan. The COO is responsible for identifying and planning for the current and long-term operational needs of the Firm and staying attuned to trends, changes, and best practices in the legal profession.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong financial background with knowledge and experience preparing budgets, analyzing financial data, developing profitability analysis, managing risk, managing expenses and developing and implementing strategic plans.  In addition, the candidate should have experience developing strategies for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the firm’s technology platform.  Experience with the Rippe & Kingston financial software a plus.

Required Skills:

The COO will be responsible for the direction of all operational and administrative functions of the firm. These responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Uphold the firm’s mission and core values through leadership and management.
  • Drive the firm to achieve revenue and profitability expectations by working alongside the accounting department to meet the firms goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the established key metrics to evaluate success and analyze data to identify areas of opportunity
  • Work in partnership with the managing partner and committees to develop and implement plans to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of the firm.
  • Motivate and lead a high performance team; attract, recruit and retain personnel required to meet the goals of the firm by fostering a success-oriented, accountable environment.
Required Education:
  • 10 years of progressively responsible leadership with 5 or more years in current position as a COO, Firm Administrator, Executive Director, CFO or similar position in a large to mid-size law firm or other professional services firm; strengths should include accounting knowledge, relationship building, financial management, technology, human resources, project management, facilities management and leadership. Experience in multi-office firm is strongly preferred.
  • A strong financial background (CPA and/or MBA preferred) with in-depth knowledge of accounting management and financial analysis practices in a professional service environment; preparing budgets, analyzing financial data, managing expenses, developing and implementing strategic plans.
  • Proven business and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize data, identify trends, and make thoughtful and creative recommendations to address immediate or potential issues.
  • Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
